January 1922 reports on the streets of the lower valley were that the widely heralded but mysterious Ku Klux Klan had made its appearance in the Beaver Valley and that a gathering of the Klan was held in the vicinity of Rochester. It was claimed that the organization had enrolled the names of some of the county's most prominent people. It was reported that in the near future there would be some startling developments.
