The Building

The Historical Museum was created by the renovation of a 90 year-old freight station formerly owned by the P&LE Railroad. The work required major structural and cosmetic rehabilitation, and included creation of a full basement, full insulation, new windows and doors, indoor-outdoor lighting, full climate control and much more. Great care was taken to preserve certain original features, such as the oak floor of the main room and the exterior lighting fixtures.

Special Features

Visitors to the Museum will find ample free parking space adjacent to the building and a convenient handicap-accessible entrance.

The outside water fountain is a Beaver landmark more than 100 vears old, and is fully operational it is controlled by an automatic valve system monitored by an electric eye, so that water use is minimal.

A resource section is available for those wishing to research more detail on the subjects displayed. Contact the docent or museum

The Exhibits

Shown on the reverse side of this brochure is a plan view of the exhibition area which calls attention to some of the more significant display elements. The exhibit is arranged in a general chronological sequence as indicated by the numbers on the floor plan.

The center island section has been set aside for changing exhibits. It is planned to offer a new venue at least every six months on new or different subjects, ranging from weapons to haberdashery, or from glassware to hardware. The possibilities are virtually endless.

The Museum Shop

The original freight office area of the Museum houses both a display of railroad-rclated items and a shop where many special items are available. These include various books and publications of the Heritage Foundation, as well as unique gift items related to this area. All proceeds accrue to the benefit of the Beaver Area Heritage Foundation.
