Renewed Tribute: A Poem

Milestones Vol 13 No. 2

A slab of concrete to some it may seem.
But to others a monument Honoring a far off dream,
To preserve the memory of those valiant men,
Who died so young and so many back then.
To maintain our heritage we so rightly claim
And perpetuate our beliefs in Freedoms' name.

A stripped down memorial is all that remains
Of the original remembrance to those vital campaigns.
No visual images for the eye to behold,
0f those loved ones Marching off so bold,
To become fodder for the canon roar
Knowing in their hearts what was in store.

When we restore those statues of a by gone year
And make their presence again appear,
We renew the pledge to remember well
The honored ones who duly fell,
So their children could in Freedom grow
And Liberty blessings on us bestow.
Why not pass on to our children that right to see
Their Forefathers role in County History?
