SITE NO. 11

SITE OF THE "OLD RED FRONT" HOTEL

(Located near the mouth of Brady's Run, on ground now covered by Rt. 5 1, where it is crossed by the Pennsylvania and Lake Erie Railroad Overpass.)

This was a pioneer hotel erected in 1803 by Hoopes Townsend for Isaac Wilson to be used for general merchandising purposes. It was later familiarly known as the "Old Red Front".

When Aaron Burr's boats were being constructed in 1805-1806, some of the workmen stayed at this hotel.
