The Beaver County Jail

This is one of the oldest government buildings in Western Pennsylvania and certainly one of the most distinctive in style. Plans and specifications for it were taken from a Pittsburgh architect's drawing in 1848, and its construction was completed in 185 1 at a cost of $28,852.95.

It is of cut sandstone and every effort was taken to make it appear, from the front at least, as a well designed private residence of the period.
