Prepare and arrange the area where the interview will take place.
Have water for interviewee
plug in tape recorder
put in tape
Test tape
push record/play
ask each person to speak in a normal voice (testing, 1,2,3)
stop and rewind
push play and listen to make sure it is working
rewind to beginning
If you have to adjust the volume or where people are sitting, test the tape again.
Beginning the interview
push record/play
count to 8 silently
say the following introduction:
"Today is (Tuesday, March 31, 1999)._________This is the Beaver Area Middle-High School Oral History Project. The interviewers are (first and last names)_________________We are gathering information about Beaver County. Would you say your name and address for us, please?"
