While Beaver had a very small library in a room in the Beaver Trust Company, it was not until 1948 that the Beaver Civic Club chartered the Beaver Area Memorial Library which began its service to the community in an 1840 house owned by the Beaver School District at the corner of Fourth and Insurance.
In 1962, the present Memorial Library was completed, financed by public subscription. Operation and maintenance is funded from several sources: the Beaver Area School Board, the four municipalities, the Beaver County Public Library Commission, gifts, memorials, fines, and State Aid.
While the first church service held on the site was a mass said by Father Claude Virot in 1757, the early settlers were Scotch-Irish and Protestant. The first congregation was Presbyterian - this was in 1799; this congregation built the first church in 1825. Since then, much of the community's life has centered around its many churches.
Since its opening, borrowers have increased from 4,868 to 6,331, collections from 16,527 to 27,524, and circulation from 57,195 to 79,308.
