In Dr. Harrison Richardson, a member of one of its
oldest families, Beaver has a veteran of two polar expeditions.
Dr. Richardson, who is an Eagle Scout, earned an opportunity while
a student at Geneva College to accompany Admiral Richard Byrd's
1939 expedition to the Antarctic as a dog handier. During this
year he walked over 1,000 miles, charting and marking the polar
ice cap for aerial photography. In 1945, as a medical officer
in the United States Navy, he was stationed at Little America
IV, at the South Pole again. After the war he returned to Beaver
where he was honored by the Award of the Silver Beaver for his
contribution to scouting. He has served for 20 years on the staff
of the Rochester Hospital.
