Joe died. Joe Jonas, historian, friend, died Sunday evening, November 27, 1994, two weeks after a massive heart attack. Joe, in the few short years I knew him, had become one of my best friends ever. He had a lot of friends; I never heard anyone say a word against him.
Joe was Treasurer of the Beaver County Historical Research and Landmarks Foundation. He was office manager for the Foundation and editor of the Foundation's history magazine, Milestones. But all three of these important and time-consuming jobs did not keep him from work at craft shows selling books, or helping at Vicary House Day, or any one of many volunteer jobs. With him at all of these affairs was his wife, Lucille. Our hearts go out to Lucille for her loss; we are going to miss him too.
Joe's favorite landmark in Beaver county was the Point of Beginning of the U.S. Public Land Survey, an extremely important place in American History. He had compiled a very large notebook of stories and pictures of the Point of Beginning, and had planned to publish a book. Someday, someone may finish the project for Joe.
We hope that Joe will look down from Heaven and give us the necessary guidance to continue the work of the history Foundation.
