New Brighton Blockhouse

Milestones Vol 31 No. 1

From The Indian Wars Of Pennsylvania By Hale Sipe

"On a little stream, flowing into the Beaver just below the town of New Brighton and still called "Blockhouse Run" a blockhouse was erected at least as early as 1789. In that year, Lt. Nathan McDowell was in command of this post. It is also mentioned March 16 and 17, 1791. Says Day, in his "Historical Collections," a Military blockhouse stood here (New Brighton), in 1793, with a garrison commanded by Major Toomey."
