These scenes from around Beaver County may be familiar to some. See how many you can identify. Answers at end of page.

 

 

Top: 1911 saw the mailline of the P FW & C RR running up New Brighton's fifth avenue. Second: The intersection of Hopewell Avenue and Franklin Avenue in Aliquippa (then Woodlawn) looked like this in 1914. Third: In 1909, Franklin Avenue, Woodlawn, (now Aliquippa) was not even a street, although many buildings were already constructed. The largest here is the Pittsburgh Mercantile Building, the company store of J&L Steel. Bottom: The famous H. C. Fry Glass Company band as they appeared while in concert in the old Rochester Opera House, an old landmark demolished in the late 1970's.
