The B. F. Jones Memorial Library in Aliquippa has been named to the National Register of Historic Places, joining seven other landmarks in Beaver County so honored. U. S. Department of the Interior and Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission officials cited the distinctive architectural features of the massive limestone structure.
The library, which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in May, was completed in 1929, a gift from Mrs. Elizabeth McMaster Jones Horn. B. F.. Jones, Sr., Mrs. Horn's father, was co-founder of the Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation. The huge bronze statue of Jones in the building's entrance is well remembered by several generations of Aliquippa youngsters whose lives have been enhanced by the library on Franklin Avenue.
