Phoenix Glass Co., Monaca, which started in August .1880, has been acquired as a wholly owned subsidiary of Anchor Hocking Glass Co.

Anchor President John Gushman, and Phoenix President W. Howard Goff said that the management would remain un changed and the assets and business had been acquired. It was acquired for 195,509 shares of Anchor-Hockiog common stock.

Phoenix started with $30,000 of capital stock as a chimney factory and, in 1884, started to manufacture colored effects in tablesware, goblets, etc., being pioneers in this industry.

The firm has been hit by two disastrous fires, the latest in March 1964, when the carton manufacturing and storage area of the plant was destroyed. The fire came during a $350,000 expansion program.

Phoenix specializes in making glass fixtures for just about every use and more than 2,000 different types of materials were shipped from the plant.
