DOUGHERTY CEMETERY (near Rochester), established in 1796, is the oldest Roman Catholic cemetery in the county. In 1801 Edward Dougherty gave the initial plot of one-half acre "on his farm to the Catholics to be a burial-place forever. " Later, the church acquired two additional pieces of ground. On December 13, 1844, it "was deeded to Bishop Michael O'Connor by the Dougherty heirs." The cemetery, near the junction of Pa.68 and l.r. 04085, north of Rochester, is still used for burials
