Among the theatrical people Rochester is considered a good show town for high grade attractions and the best companies on the road are booked for engagements in her beautiful and commodious Grand Opera House. The people of this busy borough are educated and liberal, and it is the rule here to hang out the S.R.O. sign at every performance. The Grand is one of the leading amusement resorts in the Beaver Valley. It is centrally located at Adams and Brighton avenue, opposite the Park, and on the line of the electric railroad. The Post office is situated in the same block. It is convenient to the passenger station of the P., F.W.&C., and within easy walk of the principal hotels. This house will seat about 1000 people, and has a spacious stage, well furnished with new scenery and fitted with every convenience. It is absolutely fireproof and is supplied with an abundance of exits, is lighted by electricity and heated with hot water. The dressing rooms are neat and comfortable, the parlors and retiring rooms furnished in elegant style. Only the best of attractions are booked and nothing that would offend the most fastidious is allowed to appear on its stage. The lessee and manager, Mr. George S. Challis, is also the lessee of the Connellsville, Pa., Theater, and is one of the best known managers in the business. The resident manager, Mr. William Gillman, is a gentleman of pleasing personality, courteous and always ready to oblige and always on the alert to secure good companies and please his patrons.
