VETERANS OF WARS

Soon after the end of the Civil War, Freedom veterans of that war organized the Freedom Monument and Memorial Association. Their purpose was to erect a memorial to the memory of the veterans of the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, and the Civil War. The monument is located in Oak Grove Cemetery. This organization has been active since its inception, placing flags and flowers on the local graves of Freedom's veterans of all wars on Memorial Day. A service is held each year at Oak Grove Cemetery.

The American Legion Post No. 348 was given a charter on January 22, 1923. The organization adopted as its name, the Zinkham-Mohr Post, to honor the memory of Ralph E. Zinkham, and Carl J. Mohr, who died in the line of duty during World War 1. The first commander elected was J. A. Fraser and the present one is John Ferrand.

A list of veterans serving after World War 11 is incomplete and is now being compiled by a committee of the Memorial Association.
