History of the Freedom Post Office

The Freedom Post Office was established in 1832; its first postmaster was Stephen Phillips, and its location was lower Fifth Street, between Third Avenue and the Pennsylvania Railroad. Its city delivery was established on October 17, 1921.

The former locations of the Post Office were in the following order: Lower Fifth Street, 512 Third Avenue, 562 Third Avenue, 536 Third Avenue in the Gerheim Building which was destroyed by a fire in May of 1927, 603 Third Avenue, the present position of the Freedom National Bank. (This position was established in 1927.)

The Freedom Post Office will be changing its present location sometime in the near future to Eighth Street.
